Admin bid to save Chhapra from monsoon woes

Saran DM Aman Samir organized a meeting for solutions to Chhapra waterlogging, assigning tasks to public representatives. Commissioner Sumeet Kumar to present a plan. Suggestions from Jitendra Ray, Udit Ray, and Satyendra Singh included Namami Gange project acceleration and making drains encroachment-free. PATNA: Following massive waterlogging in Chhapra town after heavy downpour, Saran DM Aman Samir, in a meeting on Friday, sought suggestions from public representatives and municipal corporation officials for redressal of the problem.
Municipal commissioner Sumeet Kumar has been directed to submit an integrated work plan, covering the municipal corporation and neighbouring panchayat areas, by incorporating the suggestions, for alleviating the sufferings of residents.
He has also been asked to plan a strategy for its execution within a week.
Participating in the meeting, Marhaura MLA Jitendra Kumar Ray, former minister Udit Ray, mayor of municipal corporation, representative of Saran, Satyendra Kumar Singh, and many others came up with various suggestions.
The suggestions mainly included end to end management of waterlogging, making drains encroachment free and their regular cleaning among others.
They also suggested accelerating the work of 'Namami Gange projects' and regular cleaning of drains under the jurisdiction of railways.
The members also suggested preparing a map of the drains, particularly those which were encroached. Sadar SDO Sanjay Kumar Ray has been directed to submit the map.
Following consultations from engineers of Railways and other officials, a committee was formed to calculate the annual holding tax on the building and land under the railways.
The executive engineer of public works department (PWD) was directed to maintain the drains under it. BUIDCO engineer was also directed to accelerate the work to connect the drains with main sewer lines.
Abhay Kumar Singh, engineer of municipal corporation and in charge of Chhapra west suggested change of all culverts to avoid waterlogging.
